Fly High..

A bird sitting on a branch is never afraid of the branch breaking; because her faith is not on the strength of the branch, but on her wings

http://www.liveatcampus.com/2013/05/a-lonely-affair-rahima-yasin/
Many days I have spent worried of my life; if my goals will materialize or my worst nightmares would come to pass...
The worst part though, was when I looked at MY capabilities and resources and found them wanting... or just sufficient enough for some distance but not the whole journey..
It was such a yo-yo lifestyle; upbeat then downtrodden in short intervals.. until I realized that I was looking for strength in all the wrong places.

For one, my perspective of success was determined by how far others had gone, and looking at my current situation, I was far from home.
I simply never defined what success meant for me.. and when I put a foot forward, I always hoped that OTHERS would recognize it as the best foot!!

I had no idea if I had done my best... talk of rock-bottom self worth (don't get me wrong - I have never entertained pity-parties; I hated it when I received sympathy..)
The past couple of months though, have been so far the toughest for me and most of my memories were filled with darkness; right now I am very glad just to bask and enjoy the sunshine!!

But I was forced to look deep into my soul and find healing; or suffer irreparable damage.. and in my search, I found a new meaning in faith in God. By trusting God, I slowly learned to trust myself!!!

Although I was tired of the pain, I was too scared of death (..not too sure where I would have ended up) and so I prayed and read the Bible religiously hoping for a miracle. Instead, ALL the Bible told me was to trust in God and WALK in faith - I  had to get off my weeping bum and walk towards something.

Treasures in my heart....
To find that "something" to walk towards to, I found myself going through my mementos, family albums, my autograph from highschool, and my old diaries, and I discovered that I had grand goals and dreams that were gathering dust.
Funny enough, I realized that I also had adequate resources to accomplish these goals and was halfway through some of my prize projects!!!!

♥♥All that glitters...
I had abandoned these gems while picking up shiny useless stones.
Keeping up with status quo, competing with others instead of just blooming.. I laid myself to waste thinking that I was flying high.
I had passions and goals that were compatible with my personality and environment. I however unknowingly let others set the standards for me and ended up chasing the wind and end up nowhere.
I guess that is why I felt so lost in the end; the real me was buried deep beneath heaps of an ideal and unrealistic world.

God would not have put that dream in your heart if He had not already given you everything to fulfill it - Joel Osteen

We are told that in order to grow, we have to change... not trade in our lives for something else.
Years I should have spent productively changing were wasted trying to be someone totally different so as to be accepted by one, or applauded by another!!

I had not taken a single step to where I wanted to be; but I learned tonnes of lessons the hard way.

The greatest of them all was that there was not even one person on this earth who could complete me or make me feel whole ..
we are designed to connect with God and live with people; not the other way round.
Once connected to God, you are able to have a fulfilling life WITH other people, no matter the circumstances!!

We are never meant to lose our individuality; but to blend in with other individuals, and this will involve making compromises and knowing when enough is enough.
Like I always say to myself, life is a journey and not a destination. In this journey, we have to learn to dance in the rain, not wait for the storm to pass, otherwise we will die waiting; we live in an imperfect world!!

Storms will come, go and come again.
※I now believe that the One who made me is in control of everything and wants what is best for me; including success in my own personal pursuits and fulfilment of the passions in my heart.
※I believe that I can make plans without fear of the future. Whether I succeed or fail is not a determinant, my focus is in the perceived end result.
This way, I have absolutely no choice but to believe in myself, and to be wise enough to seek counsel and help without fearing what others will think of me..

I love this journey now... because I know for sure that the sky is the limit.
This is Serenity!!

Classification of honey

For the love of honey..... (Part 2)

Classification of honey according to collection, processing, appearance and packaging.

Crystallized honey is honey in which some of the glucose content has spontaneously crystallized from solution as the monohydrate. Also called "granulated honey" or "candied honey." Honey that has crystallized can be returned to a liquid state by warming.

http://honey.joyfusions.com/page/4/

Pasteurized honey is honey that has been heated in a pasteurization process which requires temperatures of 161 °F (72 °C) or higher.
Pasteurization destroys yeast cells. It also liquefies any microcrystals in the honey, which delays the onset of visible crystallization. However, excessive heat exposure also results in product deterioration, as it increases the level of hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) and reduces enzyme activity. Heat also affects appearance (darkens the natural honey color), taste, and fragrance.

http://www.honeybeesuite.com/honey-pasteurization/ pasteur

Raw honey is honey as it exists in the beehive or as obtained by extraction, settling or straining, without adding heat.
Raw honey contains some pollen and may contain small particles of wax.
Some allergy sufferers wrongly believe that raw, local honey can help build tolerance to the pollen in the air.

Strained honey has been passed through a mesh material to remove particulate material (pieces of wax, propolis, other defects) without removing pollen, minerals or enzymes.

Serenity Jewels - Life is Beautiful!!!

Filtered honey is honey of any type that has been filtered to the extent that all or most of the fine particles, pollen grains, air bubbles, or other materials normally found in suspension, have been removed.
The process typically heats honey to 150–170 °F (66–77 °C) to more easily
pass through the filter. Filtered honey is very clear and will not crystallize as quickly, making it preferred by the supermarket trade.

Ultrasonicated honey has been processed by ultrasonication , a non-thermal processing alternative for honey. When honey is exposed to ultrasonication, most of the yeast cells are destroyed. Those cells that survive ultrasonication generally lose their ability to grow, which reduces the rate of honey fermentation substantially.
Ultrasonication also eliminates existing crystals and inhibits further crystallization in honey.

Creamed honey,
also called whipped honey, spun honey, churned honey, honey fondant, and (in the UK) set honey, has been processed to control crystallization .
Creamed honey contains a large number of small crystals, which prevent the formation of larger crystals that can occur in unprocessed honey. The processing also produces a honey with a smooth, spreadable consistency.

Dried honey has the moisture extracted from liquid honey to create completely solid, nonsticky granules. This process may or may not include the use of drying and anticaking agents.
Dried honey is used in baked goods, and to garnish desserts.

Comb honey is honey still in the honeybees' wax comb. It traditionally is collected by using standard wooden frames in honey supers. The frames are collected and the comb is cut out in chunks before packaging.
Comb honey harvested in the traditional manner is also referred to as "cut-comb honey".

Chunk honey is packed in widemouth containers consisting of one or more pieces of comb honey immersed in extracted liquid honey.

Honey decoctions are made from honey or honey by-products which have been dissolved in water, then reduced (usually by means of boiling).
Other ingredients may then be added. (For example, abbamele has added citrus.) The resulting product may be similar to molasses.

Floral source
Generally, honey is classified by the floral source of the nectar from which it was made. Honeys can be from specific types of flower nectars or can be blended after collection. The pollen in honey is traceable to floral source and therefore region of origin.

Blended: Most commercially available honey is blended, meaning it is a mixture of two or more honeys differing in floral source, color, flavor, density or geographic origin.

Polyfloral: also known as wildflower honey, is derived from the nectar of many types of flowers.
The taste may vary from year to year, and the aroma and the flavor can be more or less intense, depending on which bloomings are prevalent.

Monofloral honey is made primarily from the nectar of one type of flower.
Different monofloral honeys have a distinctive flavor and color because of differences between their principal nectar sources. To produce monofloral honey, beekeepers keep beehives in an area where the bees have access to only one type of flower.

Honeydew honey: Instead of taking nectar, bees can take honeydew, the sweet secretions of aphids or other plant sap-sucking insects.
Honeydew honey is very dark brown in color, with a rich fragrance of stewed fruit or fig jam, and is not as sweet as nectar honeys.

Raw Organic Honey

For the love of honey..... (part 1)

http://thehoneyhutch.com/

♠♥ Life is the flower for which love is the honey. ~ Victor Hugo ♥♠
Honey bees transform nectar into honey by a process of regurgitation and evaporation. They store it as a primary food source in wax honeycombs inside the beehive.

What is RAW HONEY???
Raw honey is the most original honey collected straight from the extractor; it is totally unheated, unpasteurized, unprocessed honey.
Ripe honey, as removed from the hive by a beekeeper , has a long shelf life, and will not ferment if properly sealed.
This means that it has retained all of its natural components including antioxidants, which are easily destroyed by heating and pasteurization.

Serenity Jewels - Life is Beautiful!!!

Raw unfiltered honey

Serenity Jewels - Life is Beautiful!!!

★★ BENEFITS...

Rich in antioxidants: Antioxidants help boost your body's natural defenses.
A daily dose of honey raises levels of disease-fighting antioxidants in the blood.
Researchers say honey contains varying concentrations of polyphenols, which are powerful antioxidants that are thought to reduce the risk of heart disease and cancer.
Polyphenols are also found in fruits, vegetables, tea, and olive oil.
Honey contains several compounds thought to function as antioxidants, including chrysin , pinobanksin , vitamin C , catalase, and pinocembrin.

Routine skin care:
Acne fighter: Honey is naturally antibacterial, so it's great for acne treatment and prevention.
Anti-aging: Full of antioxidants, it is great for slowing down aging.
Complexion boost: It is extremely moisturizing and soothing, so it helps create a glow.

Pores cleanser: Honey is clarifying because it opens up pores making them easy to unclog. It is because of this that honey is known to be an extremely efficient skin cleanser even on its own.

Wound healer; In fact, it is considered one of the oldest known wound dressings.
Honey was used by the ancient Greek physician Dioscorides in 50 A.D. for sunburn and infected wounds.
Honey’s healing properties are mentioned in the Bible, Koran, and Torah.
Some people apply honey directly to the skin for wound healing, burns, sunburn , cataracts, and diabetic foot ulcers.
Some of the chemicals in honey may kill certain bacteria and fungus. When applied to the skin, honey may serve as a barrier to moisture and keep skin from sticking to dressings.
Honey may also provide nutrients and other chemicals that speed wound healing.
♥Honey bees add an antibacterial protein called defensin-1, a natural part of their immune system, to honey during the production process.
And when honey is applied to skin or an open wound, an enzyme called glucose oxidase breaks down, naturally releasing the first-aid staple hydrogen peroxide. Experts say that the high sugar content, low water content, and natural acidity of honey also prevents microbial growth.

Antioxidants: Honey contains nutraceuticals, which are very effective for
the removal of free radicals from the body. As a result, our body immunity is improved against many conditions; ※maybe that's why we are advised to take honey whenever we "feel a flu" coming in...  ※

Antimicrobial ability: Since time immemorial, honey has been used to dress minor wounds; applying raw honey to infected wounds can reduce redness and swelling as well as reducing healing time from bacterial infection. The effects are
comparable to antibiotics.

Improving Athletic Performance: Honey
is an excellent ergogenic aid and helps in boosting the performance of athletes. Honey is a great way to maintain blood sugar levels, muscle recuperation and glycogen restoration after a workout, as well as regulating the amount of insulin in the body, as well as energy expenditure.

Potential dangers..
Honey, as sweet as it is, is unfortunately unsuitable for some people; mainly infants, those with allergies to honey and its components (pollen etc) and those with conditions that are made worse by honey eg diabetic patients.
Honey has many antibacterial abilities.  However, bacteria that reproduce using spores, including the bacterium that causes botulism, may remain. This explains why botulism has been reported in infants given honey by mouth ( infants' immature intestinal tracts are quite vulnerable to these bacteria, leading to illness and even death.)

The political & security duality of Uhuru's good decision.

"I saw the duality of your decision Mr. President, you hit at ODM coalition, you actually did weaken the opposition by appointing an ODM political supremo one Maj General Nkaisery into your government as a the CS Interior Ministry, I liked the way you minded the fact that Ole Lenku was a Maasai and so you replaced him with one of their own, you actually appealed the Maasai Nation to safeguard their votes for 2017, on the hand you did well by administering the soft surgery on top level security management of our country.
While Jubilee & ODM party/coalition politics would certainly be expected played over the appointment of the new Interior CS Maj General (Rtd) Nkaisery belonging to the ODM camp, let it be clear to every critic of the government decision that the few kind of Nkaisery are a rare crop the state needed to fix the security quagmire, certainly few will be seeing it best value for Kenyans' tax.
The dividends for this major & timely changes in the strategic leadership of the mentioned national security agencies is the shared, seamless & consultative strategic security thinking that would follow joint security operations opposed to what has been piece-meal rivaly ridden operations.
It's not to say the panacea to our security challenges is here with the appointments but the changes are an opportunity for better & systemic strategic realignment of the strategic part of security & it's tactical part of it, structurally meshing the strategic & tactical ends of security to for security operations to be informed by agile/flexible and interactive two ends.
With the changes here with us, I would reiterate the president's rhetoric that security remains a shared responsibility and as such, the new persons in the highest offices will require the public support and commitment to fix insecurity within our borders.
For General Nkaisery, this is one such times when the politics of parties became inconsequential to service to the people of Kenya, your years of service as a patriot in the Kenya Defense Forces both in active soldiery & as an assistant minister for defense made you seen and appointment beyond the prism of your political party perceptions.
You therefore have an enormous role and at the same time an opportunity to help Kenya and craft a legacy for yourself. Certainly you have all you need to do this!!

Dogs, Mutts, Pure breeds (Part 2)

One thing we have overlooked in our country is dog farming. This does not mean that it does not happen on professional levels.
These local breeds exhibit all traits found in pure breeds, from intelligence to agility and better immunity, save for the fact that they do not have a specific "look" that is associated with specific breeds ... they are quite colourful!!

I have seen many people "improve" the local breeds depending on the nature of work they are to perform.
For example, herding dogs rarely need a human overseer to protect and herd the cattle home. They are also rarely aggressive and will not bother with ANYTHING unless you make a move towards one of the flock...
Security dogs will appear lazy and snooze like cats until you trespass into the owner's territory.
They are also good tracking dogs; many stolen Kenyan shepherds are known to walk miles back home to their owners regardless of the territory.. making them very dependable tracking and guide dogs.

Their abilities are endless!!
As a pure breed dog breeder, it is very, very important that the standards that apply to that particular breed are maintained; with a slight exception to coats and colouring.
Bone structure, size, temperament, intelligence and general physical appearance are maintained to a strict replication. Dogs that don't meet these standards are not bred and that lineage is cut off.
This applies to all recognized "pure breeds". Rarely do breeders venture out to more that three breeds unless they are veterans.
As for dog farming, especially with the local mixed breeds, the one thing that is a non-factor is the appearance of the dog.
♥Intelligence, health, temperament and size are usually major factors but not to strict definitions. One strength can cover up for four weaknesses in that dog.
Now, don't get me wrong...
I do not mean to undervalue pure breeds; quite contrary. I see a gold mine in our local mixed breeds
I mean to point out that these dogs are just as useful as the highly esteemed imported pure breeds.
This has many advantages; including-
Curbing the sprouting puppy mills. People will stop breeding the same bitch consecutively till it gives in, just to maximize on the poor pure-bred female.
♣  Theft of dogs will be reduced significantly. Since pure-breeds are more expensive than our local mixed breeds, many are stolen and sold at throw-away prices or made into puppy factories.
This is further burdened by the fact that pedigree certificates can easily be forged, and an unsuspecting buyer can be conned of lots of money for a poorly bred litter
I have noticed that in the low income areas, there is a HUGE need of security dogs, yet the local breeds roam about wild.
This potential can be tapped into, with the local shepherds being trained and the breeds improved further and the residents can access security and companion dogs at lower costs instead of relying on puppy mills or stolen dogs.
This will also deter the youth from stealing and mistreating the stolen pure breeds and they will focus on improving the gold mine they already have in their disposal.
In the meantime, I will see how they can be able to exhibit their dogs to the general public.
I have worked with the local breeds and they are VERY intelligent, trainable and to an extent, they will become innovative just to get the job done.
These dogs found owners who are so happy with their dogs that they think pure breeds are just over-rated!!!
Not to mention, the local breeds are affectionate and loyal to a fault!!!
Since there is initiative to showcase mix-breed dogs as in the shaggy dog show, many local mixed breeds will get noticed and hopefully find new homes. This will also help ease the burden on the KSPCA as more of their rescued dogs will find loving homes and I am sure to a fault that the new owners will love them to bits.
I will appreciate your two, three or fifty cents on dog rearing; especially pure-bred breeding and the local breed farming;
※ How it will improve the living standards of dogs and curb puppy mills and dubious breeders
※ How it will give our local mixed breeds a chance to have decent homes and healthcare
※ How the overall perception of dogs will change form being purely ornamental to parts and parcel of a functional society.
This is Serenity!!!

Dog breeding : Developing the purebreed (intro)

Dog breeding
mainly involves reproducing a specific breed from a recognized lineage based on the international standards that define that breed. Mixing of breeds is not acceptable at all. This applies to all domestic animals besides dogs.

Most "purebreds" we have today are a result of interbreeding, a good example being the ever-dependable German Shepherd dog ※※

Now, we look at a sprouting problem in our society... puppy milling!!!
This problem is rampant from first-world to third world nations.
I believe it is fueled by the fact that people are very willing to own "purebred" dogs without knowing why they need the dog in the first place... (for example, buying an estranged spouse a puppy because its a cute gift...).

This problem is fueled further by the many people who see an opportunity to exploit the dogs and breed them consistently without taking care to consider their welfare.

Back to my point..
Dog breeding is actually a branch of dog farming. This is because the breeder will put in effort to ensure that the subsequent progenies are of better quality, or ensuring that the "breed" standards are maintained.

For example, when coming up with the German shepherd dog, Von Stephantz was looking for a dog that was strong and agile, intelligent with stable temperament, independent yet keen to follow instructions and the dog could be trusted to perform its duties with minimal supervision.

Now, no such dog existed; many different mix-breed dogs with such inherent qualities existed instead!!!

Some of them were bred directly from wolves... (intelligence and independence factor..).
Von Stephanitz just identified a dog that came close to his ideal shepherd dog, and improved the progenies (puppies) with other dogs that had the desired qualities and as the breed got better, he stuck to a specific number of lineages ... hence the German Shepherd dog.

This applies for other "pure breeds" like Boston terriers, bred to hunt mice and other vermin, the Komondor bred to blend in with the sheep they were herding through their long white coats, and independent enough not to need a human shepherd around, the Malamute bred to pull sledges of heavy loads through coordinated teamwork... and the tiny spitz and toy dogs, bred from recessive dwarfism genes that ensured they remained tiny forever but maintained their big personalities (many were bred from security dogs with strong territorial defensiveness)...
The list is endless...

Now that we understand what dog breeding is basically about, we can then know why we would get a specific dog breed and for what purpose.

This is Serenity!!!

When You Believe....

When you believe...
♥♥♥It is one thing to ask in faith; and another to receive in faith...

I remember the first time I was entrusted with the family car; I was beside myself in joy and excitement!! I always wanted this day to dawn!! I had gone for my driving classes, got my licence.. now I had the chance to drive the pick-up truck without a "chaperone"!!

Problem was, I had no clue if I could survive the trip without a fender-bender!!
I had asked for the chance.. and now I had the key in my hand. The only way to know if I would survive my crazy town was to get in the car and drive to town..

※※Which brings me to my point...
I will use myself as an example (as usual!!!)
Often times, I have asked God for a couple of stuff in faith. I totally believed in the One I was confiding in, His ability to grace me but I had one problem...
I would sit and anxiously wait for my answers.. as if to see if my "request" got through.

Right now, I wonder what it is that made me so..
※ I was not sure that I actually deserved what I asked for..
※ I undermined my own needs and so I imagined that God also saw them as petty...
※ I wasn't sure I was asking for the right thing or was I being vain...??

... I still prayed for them and surprise surprise!! My prayers were answered!!
Not once, not twice... all my prayers were answered by what I asked for or something even better!!!

**Life is a journey and in this trip, I keep on stumbling into little unseen truths about myself. **

I just realized that while I asked, I never stretched my hands to receive; as if it's a shameful thing to receive.
But then, my relationship with myself was also complicated. I was a paradox.. I believed in myself but then again, I wasn't so sure...

It wasn't until I had faith in myself that I started seeing gifts for what they were; gifts!!
Not crutches!!
Not little reminders of what I lacked; simply something extra to make life more blissful!!
I had to open up and accept what I had received of late wasn't out of pity or charity but out of love..
and then it dawned on me that I needed to apply the same with God.

I would ask for healing but feel so ashamed that I was ill in the first place...
I asked for peace but was too ashamed that I had got myself in that "predicament" that consumed my peace...
So, how could I receive when my hands were balled into fists of agony??!!

I had to let the hate go.. and love myself and allow it to flow....
It is one thing to ask, and another to receive...
You cannot receive when your hands are full or hidden. But then, you cannot wish away the fulfilled promise in front of your eyes..

The peek-a-boo game has had to end!!
I have decided that I will not anxiously hide my face then pop in to see if I have been blessed... I had the faith to ask.. I better have the faith to receive!!!

Faith without action is dead..※
As long as I have asked, I will make my next step in accordance with my plans, for He has gone ahead of me and straightened my path.
I have no business remaining in the same spot out of fear... I better keep my end of the deal and REMAIN faithful, and keep on moving..

God is good enough to answer our prayers.. He was good enough to sit and listen in the first place!!
Courage is the fear that has said its prayers- Anon

This is Serenity!!
