Hi again,
So, time and time again, I have come across people who need to gain more weight, despite eating regularly.
How can this be? How is it possible to eat well, really well and not be able to gain more weight?
This is probably due to the fact that you are a "HARD GAINER", a term used to describe those people who find it hard to gain extra pounds. Normally, hard gainers tend to have higher than normal metabolisms so they effectively burn calories, and tend to have been, or still are, quite physically active.
A mass gainer supplement is formulated for hard gainers to be able to surpass their daily calorie consumption in the most convenient way possible. Most healthy adults require about 2000 calories intake per day. An athlete/weight lifter will require more, sometimes up to 4000 calories or more. If the body consumes more than you give it, then, you will have a hard time gaining weight/mass. If you are athletic and increase the training intensity without increasing the fuel (calories) then you will end up burning existing muscles to provide fuel for sustaining life (that includes thinking!!!), leading to WASTING where you get leaner and skinnier, not as buffed up as you should be.
Mass gainers are formulated from a combination of protein, carbohydrates, small-branch chained fatty acids and in some cases, creatine. The mass gainer is made in such a way that the body is able to absorb the contents very fast into the bloodstream, about 45 minutes to 1 hour. This means that there will be enough carbs to start the insulin spike needed to drive in nutrients from the blood stream into the cells that need the nutrients. Therefore, the nutrients will be very available for the cells within a short time of consuming the mass gainer (unlike a normal meal that will take about 3 to 4 hours). This comes in handy after working out, where the body will go into the ANABOLIC phase (building and repair). This also reduces the post-work out pains associated with microscopic tearing during exercise.
Most mass gainers will give about 500 to 1000 calories per serving, and combined with a normal daily intake of 2000 calories, you are able to meet your caloric requirements without burning off extra muscle tissue for energy.
Please note, you should not use mass gainers if you are trying to reduce your body-fat content, or trying to lose weight. It will defeat the purpose of losing the fats, plus it will also give you very expensive urine. If you are trying to lose your fat content but you need to increase your energy levels, you are better off using pre-work out vitamin complexes. Vitamin complexes are generally used to increase vitality, concentration levels, appetite as well as energy levels, and are widely used by many people to increase their quality of life. There are vitamins specially for athletes (pre-work out supplements) that have higher daily value of vitamins and minerals content, and in some cases, creatine.
Otherwise, if you need to, enjoy a yummy shake of mass gainer shakes, and be on your way to your ideal athletic physique.
