TEST BOOSTERS - THESE ARE NOT PERFORMANCE STEROIDS

Test boosters: testosterone boosters in a shallow perspective. I will delve more into the matter with more research

***please note that these are NOT steroids, but amino acids that boost  synthesis/manufacture of testosterone by the body

Testosterone, a hormone produced primarily by the testicles (but not only by testicles – women have some testosterone but don’t have testicles), is often associated with the epitome of "manhood" (although women have testosterone, too).

Beginning around age 30, a man's testosterone levels begin to decline, and continue to do so as he ages. A wide range of chemical exposures included prescribed drugs like statins, adversely impact testosterone production in men.

At the same time, estrogen levels typically increase due to widespread exposures to estrogen-mimicking compounds in food, water and
environmental pollutants.

Main ingredient in testosterone products
D-Aspartic Acid: D-Aspartic Acid (D-AA) is an amino acid regulator of testosterone synthesis and also makes a stimulatory neurotransmitter (NDMA).

It shows promise in aiding male fertility, but increases in testosterone seem short lived in healthy men which limits its use. While more evidence is needed, right now it looks like it may be a decent testosterone booster for infertile men but its usage in athletes is limited for a half a month or so (with testosterone returning to normal after that).
If your levels are indeed low, there are a number of synthetic and bioidentical testosterone products on the market, as well as DHEA, which is the most abundant androgen precursor prohormone in the human body, meaning that it is the largest raw material your body uses to produce other vital hormones, including testosterone in men and estrogen in women.
In case of low testosterone levels, one might experience symptoms like irritability, mood swings, weight gain, low sexual desire, depression, poor concentration, tiredness and erectile dysfunction. In such cases, testosterone boosters are prescribed..

Testosterone supplements are also used by bodybuilders and athletes to increase muscle mass, performance, strength
and size. They are available as oral supplements, transdermal patches as well as injections. It is strictly advised that you use a testosterone booster only under the supervision of a healthcare professional. This will also make it easier to deal with  testosterone boosters side effects or complications, if any.
You can get test boosters from any health shop near you or a pharmacy near you.You will not need a prescription, but you will have to consult first and check up with your trusted health provider.

9 Ways to Naturally Increase Testosterone Levels

1.   Lose Weight (If you're overweight, shedding the excess pounds may increase your testosterone levels, according to research presented at the Endocrine Society's 2012 meeting. Overweight men are more likely to have low testosterone levels to begin with, so this is an important trick to increase your body's testosterone production when you need it most.)

2.   High-Intensity Exercise like Peak Fitness (Especially Combined with Intermittent Fasting)
3.   Consume Plenty of Zinc
4.   Strength Training
5.   Optimize Your Vitamin D Levels
6.   Reduce Stress
7.   Limit or Eliminate Sugar from Your Diet
8.   Eat Healthy Fats
9.   Boost Your Intake of Branch Chain Amino Acids (BCAA) from Foods Like Whey Protein

HAIRCARE - CERAMIDES

Ceramides and hair care

Ceramides are fatty molecules that naturally occur in the hair fiber. They are the "glue' of the hair fiber that hold all of the layers together. Ceramides form a seal on the cuticle layer, limiting the loss of protein molecules from the hair shaft; protecting the fiber against normal wear and tear from manipulation (washing & styling), UV rays, heat and chemical services; like dye, relaxers
etc.

This seal also helps to keep the cuticle flat and tightly packed; they fill in gaps in the cuticle, giving shine and keeping porosity low.

Over time, hair loses ceramide molecules. From heat and chemical but also just from the hair istself aging. Older and/or damaged hair contains less ceramide than newer/healthier hair. So it makes sense to incorporate ceramides to maintain hair health.
*Note: Ceramides help limit the loss of protein and help strengthen the hair fiber. However they are not proteins, nor can they replace protein in your regimen.

(Some people have found they need less protein though).
There are plant oils and extracts that contain plant ceramides. They function much the same as those found in our own hair. Many hair products also contain natural and synthetic ceramides

Oils/extracts containing ceramides:
  • Soybean oil
  • Sesame oil
  • Eucalyptus extract
  • Hemp seed oil
  • Kukui Nut oil
  • Sunflower oil
  • Rice Bran oil
  • Walnut oil
  • Wheat Germ oil
  • Oils containing high amounts of linoleic acid; which suggests ceramide
  • benefit:
  • Safflower oil
  • Grape seed oil
  • Poppyseed oil
  • Corn oil
  • Cottonseed oil
You can incorporate ceramides as part of your regular treatments, as daily
groomer when moisturizing and sealing or hot oil or oil rinse treatments.

MEDICINES - Brand leaders and Generics, what is the difference?

Originator, Generics and brand names:

Quite often we come across so many different brands of medicine, some we call 'Original brand' which is actually the Originator brand or the brand leader, and the generic, which people often confuse for counterfeit/fake brands (often because they are much cheaper).
These drugs usually differ in so many ways, including shape, colour, fillers (and taste components) as well as branding and packaging.

So what is the 'Originator brand' or a 'Brand Leader' in the pharmaceutical sense? When a pharmaceutical company discovers a certain chemical, it will seek to protect it as intellectual property through patenting. The patent usually lasts an average of 20 years, the 20 years inclusive of when the chemical was discovered all through its launch as medication for human use. Roughly, 15 out of the 20 years will be used for development and research, while the remainder of the time will be used to launch and push the drug in the market where it dominates until the patent expires. this is where the "Original" concept comes from. Thus, it is recognized as a 'Brand leader '.

Generics are therefore the chemically identical copies of the brand leader. They are NOT fake medicine. They are cheaper though, since the manufacturing company did not have to incur the development and research costs as well as marketing costs when introducing the drug to the market.

There are 3 general types of generic medicine:

Pseudo-generics (a.k.a clone medication): These are identical to the originator brand leader in all aspects, except branding and identifying components e.g colour of tablets, taste etc. Most often, they are manufactured in the same factory
as the brand leader.

Licensed generic: These share the same formula as the originator brand leader, but are manufactured by another manufacturer who has bought the formula from the brand leader, and are licensed to manufacture the drug.

True Generic: This type is manufactured by a company that has formulated its own recipe, but contains the same active ingredient as the brand leader. To qualify for government subsidy, the generic must show that it is therapeutically equivalent to the brand leader (i.e do what the originator brand leader
does to bring about relief). This means that the drug must contain between 80% to 120% of the active ingredient as contained in the brand leader, so as to provide assurance of effectiveness of the generic drug.
There are cases where a small change in the composition of the active ingredient may be harmful to the user, especially when the active ingredient is a strong/potent chemical. This is defined as ' Medically narrow therapeutic window'. It is in such a case where you find that a patient is advised not to
substitute the originator brand leader with a generic drug.
Therefore, don't be afraid of generic medicine, as long as they are licensed and approved, as your pharmacist will assure you.

WHAT ARE CALORIES?

A calorie is simply, a unit of energy or heat that is required to raise 1 gram of water by 10C. (18 degrees Fahrenheit). 1 calorie is actually equal to 4.184 joules (joules being the unit of energy mostly used in physics).
The calories listed in food are actually kilocalories (1 kilocalorie = 1000 calories). Most foods list their calories with capital – C to try and show that they are referring to food calories. So, when a banana is said to have 300 calories, it actually has 300,000 calories. So, the banana has enough potential energy to raise 300,000 grams of water (that is 300 liters of water) by 1 degrees Centigrade.

To stay alive, the body will require energy to drive its numerous processes. Many organs will also require energy to function, like the brain,
the heart, the kidneys and so on. Processes like digestion, cell regeneration and active transport will require energy.
(Active transport is the process by which cells uptake ions and other substances through their cells against the concentration gradient from low concentrations, to high concentrations. The cells will tend to have the same concentration, if not higher, as the blood in the capillaries next to them, so they will require extra energy to facilitate the uptake of ions and dissolved nutrients through the cell membranes).

This energy (ie calories) is derived from food.
The number of calories in food is actually the potential energy present in that food.
One gram of fats has 9 calories, while proteins and carbohydrates each have 4 calories per
gram.
The body will "burn" the calories in the food through metabolic processes, by which enzymes break the carbohydrates into glucose and other sugars, the fats into glycerol and fatty acids and the proteins into amino acids. These molecules are then transported through the
bloodstream to the cells, where they are either  absorbed for immediate use or are sent on to the final stage of metabolism, in which they are
reacted with oxygen to release their stored energy.

IT DOESN'T MATTER WHO YOU ARE; YOU ARE IMPORTANT

Sometimes we choose wrong when trying to choose right...

The ironical mirror...

So, I have noticed that many people 'worship' entrepreneurs. But then, there are innovators, the managers, the general employees ... but people relish the entrepreneur!!

It is believed that many business owners are entrepreneurs. We see entrepreneurs as the people behind the money... We love entrepreneurs because they are the super men in the economy!! They make all the money, the rest work for them ... thats it, or is it?

The reality is...
that, we need entrepreneurs amongst us.
In political economics , entrepreneurship is the process of identifying and starting a new business venture, sourcing and organizing the required resources, while taking both the risks and rewards associated with the venture (wikipedia) (think Sir Richard Branson)
Innovators, are the brain boxes that come up with solutions that change man kind for a very long time (think Steve Jobs)

An innovator in a general sense, is a person or an organization who is one of the first to introduce into reality something better than before. That opens up a new area for others and achieves an innovation . (wikipedia)

Then there is management, where we all want to start, then be innovators, then ... ENTREPRENEURS!!! We forget that we all have different capabilities and capacities.

Many entrepreneurs I meet have absolutely no capacity to make the money last a week!! Thus, they need 'working class' consultants and managers to help them achieve long term goals.
Many innovators i know are lazy, or awkward or misfits, and will NEED someone to believe in them (or a good business plan for financing) before their innovations take life!!!

Many managers I know are too busy being managers, they forget that these "lower beings" are the engine of the organization, and if they all left, there would be no business to manage!!
And finally, the workers or "lower beings" surviving .. are the engines of the business. We need someone to create contact with the customer, someone to ensure the merchandise is available and in good shape, someone to keep our customers safe and secure, someone to deal with the paper work, someone to fix the computers and printers ... the list is endless!!

Until the day we see the true meaning of the positions God has put us in, we will never appreciate (and we all know, ungrateful hearts are the ones mark timing year in, year out). I am happy and grateful for where I am today. I made mistakes in the past that had taken me a few steps back, but I am here, now. Moving forward, the past offers lessons, nothing more. The future holds opportunities. But the present, is where IT ALL STARTS!!!

Don't feel bad you don't have the perks of the MD, maybe one day you will be MD, but all that depends on how you handle your job TODAY!! The MD also worked their way there, they didn't wake up at age 40 and discovered .."WOW!! AM MD!!)

Live life, be happy and most of all, be grateful for where you are today!!

This is Serenity!!
Life is always beautiful...

What is a LACE FRONT wig?

These wigs resemble weaves, in that, it gives you a hair-line, getting rid of the
'wiggy' effect.
The lace is preferred by those who:
-are experiencing total hair loss eg, due to medical conditions or side-effects
from medication
-those who like weaves but have extremely sensitive scalps
-those experiencing hair loss around their edges
-those whose hair is fine/brittle and cannot withstand extensions/weaves
-those from hospital and cannot have their hair done immediately
The lace front allows you to own the style without the 'wiggy' look, as well as
allowing the scalp to breathe/rest in case of scalp irritation

Stay beautiful!!

Raw shea butter: benefits

As discussed in the last post on shea butter, i think it will be great to go into one of its benefits; GREAT SKIN CARE PRODUCT
So here goes,,,

thecultureist.com
SOFTER SKIN: Shea butter is hard to use on its own but you can mix with your favourite lotions and oils/pomades and it will work great. After just a month, i have noticed silkier skin (even on my palms, and i don't scrub).
Also, the complexion is more defined and uniform, as compared to before. I do not use it on my face though, as it is quite creamy and rich and I have oily face. A good plan would to mix a small portion with your night cream then cleanse in the morning if you really have to use on the face.
When used straight, it makes excellent lip balm ( although i mix mine with some Vaseline and honey (to taste - just a drop). It also soften rough heels, and l mean grater rough feet. And also rough knees and elbows.
It also works well on scars, and may eliminate them  For more traumatic scars, it helps make the skin softer hence helping the scar blend in with the surrounding skin
It works also well for cuts and abrassions and some minor burns, preventing blistering and scarring.
Many ladies use it for stretch marks. It will definatelly reduce their appearance and when used during pregnancy, it may help prevent them completely . Just massage the butter with a good carrier oil like olive oil and massage on the belly and thighs (and breasts too..they also get their own uplifts during pregnancy)

On the hair,,,
edens-paradise.com
It acts as a good sealant after conditioning/treatment and makes hair really smooth. You can mix with your favourite oils to make it easier to use.
It is also soothing to the scalp, sort of relaxes and cools it when it feels like scales. With all the vitamin E am sure it does a lot to promote. a healthy scalp.
There are many benefits to using raw shea butter so do not hesitate to grab some. If you would like, just check out this link for some awesome shea products

Take care!!

Don't worry whether its right or not.... It's your life

You have been invited for a very important event (like, your best friend's wedding) and you are shopping around town looking for a perfect and appropriate outfit.
So, you walk into a shop selling shoes, and you immediately know the pair you like. But then, they don't have your size, or the colour you wanted. But the shop is full of shoes, all types, all sizes, most affordable brands and fashion season doesn't dictate their stock. The assistants are God-sent since they help you pick out a pair that looks amazing, complements your dress/suit and you have a great time at the event and everyone is complementing you for looking so glam that day (never mind you never wore the shoes you thought were right)...
Point of the story....
In life, we have to make choices. Some of them, we are not too sure but make them anyway. But some choices, we are dead set that they are RIGHT, and no soul or spirit can convince you to reconsider your decision.
But then God has a way of making sure we don't turn our lives into a complete mess (if you have the humility to listen even ONCE) you will be 'forced' by the angels that live among us to go along with an alternate option, which turns out to be the best thigh that may ever happen to you!!
In a society where idolization and glorification is a ritual, this can be hard, and may even seem crazy, disastrous or that you need psychiatric help. All phenomenal ideas are worshiped, but what happens to the little compromises and compassion that we all ultimately need? They are a sign of weakness!!
Not for me though. Out of experience, there is more to life than that. When you are at the point where you question your very existence, then you will learn to appreciate the other models and fabrics in society. You recognize the golden opportunities you threw away because your 'role model' did it differently, and when you are starting over, you would gladly accept a small portion of that which you let go of.
No size fits all, no style appeals to everyone. But if that path has a semblance of a future you would want, then follow it. Listen to your elders, and have an open mind.
As a rule, i look up to people who are at peace with their lives, no matter the circumstances they are dealing with. And that (with God's blessings) forms a great deal of how I make my decisions. I dont know about you, but what ever you decide, it has to make sense to YOU before it makes sense to anyone else.
So, enjoy life. You were a lone zygote, and you will be a lone set of bones eventually. What happens in between better be worth it.
Live life, live well, have fun!!
This is Serenity!!

About Fibromyalgia: What on earth is FIBROMYALGIA?

Fibromyalgia (pronounced fy-bro-my-AL-ja) is a common and complex chronic pain disorder that affects people physically, mentally and socially.
Fibromyalgia is a syndrome rather than a disease. Unlike a disease, which is a medical condition with a specific cause or causes and recognizable signs and symptoms, a syndrome is a collection of signs, symptoms, and medical problems that tend to occur together but are not related to a specific identifiable cause.

Fibromyalgia, which has also been referred to as fibromyalgia syndrome, fibromyositis and fibrositis , is characterized by chronic widespread pain, multiple tender points, abnormal pain processing, sleep disturbances, fatigue and often psychological distress. For those with severe symptoms, fibromyalgia can be extremely debilitating and interfere with basic daily activities.

Chronic widespread body pain is the primary symptom of fibromyalgia. Most people with fibromyalgia also experience moderate to extreme fatigue, sleep disturbances, sensitivity to touch, light, and sound, and cognitive difficulties. Many individuals also experience a number of other symptoms and overlapping conditions, such as irritable bowel syndrome, lupus and arthritis.

Pain....

The pain of fibromyalgia is profound, chronic and widespread. It can migrate to all parts of the body and vary in intensity. FM pain has been described as stabbing and shooting pain and deep muscular aching, throbbing, and twitching. Neurological complaints such as numbness, tingling, and burning
are often present and add to the discomfort of the patient. The severity of the pain and stiffness is often worse in the morning. Aggravating factors that affect pain include cold/humid weather, non-restorative sleep, physical and mental fatigue, excessive physical activity, physical inactivity, anxiety and stress.

Fatigue...
many people complain of fatigue; however, the fatigue of FM is much more than being tired after a particularly busy day or after a sleepless night. The fatigue of FM is an all-encompassing exhaustion that can interfere with occupational, personal, social or educational activities. Symptoms include
profound exhaustion and poor stamina

Sleep problems...
Many fibromyalgia patients have an associated sleep disorder that prevents them from getting deep, restful, restorative sleep. Medical researchers have documented specific and distinctive abnormalities in the Stage 4 deep sleep of FM patients. During sleep, individuals with FM are constantly interrupted by bursts of awake-like brain activity, limiting the amount of time they spend in deep sleep.

Other symptoms/overlapping conditions...
Additional symptoms may include: irritable bowel and bladder, headaches and migraines, restless legs syndrome (periodic limb movement disorder), impaired memory and concentration, skin sensitivities and rashes, dry eyes and mouth, anxiety, depression, ringing in the ears, dizziness, vision
problems, Raynaud's Syndrome, neurological symptoms, and impaired coordination.

Causes...
Common risk factors include:
(**risk factors are not immediate causes but facilitators)

  • Sleep disturbance
  • physical injury
  • Early childhood trauma
  • Repetitive strain injury
  • gluten intolerance
  • other diseases and disorders

The underlying cause or causes of FM still remain a mystery, Most researchers agree that FM is a disorder of central processing with neuroendocrine/neurotransmitter dysregulation. The FM patient experiences pain amplification due to abnormal sensory processing in the central nervous system.
From imbalance of substances in the spinal cord, low blood flow to the brain, abnormalities in some amino acids function to low levels of neurotransmitters.. FM is confusing and is often treated as per severity of the symptoms.
Recent studies show that genetic factors may also predispose individuals to a genetic susceptibility to FM.
For some, the onset of FM is slow; however, in a large percentage of patients the onset is triggered by an illness or injury that causes trauma to the body . These events may act to incite an undetected
physiological problem already present.

Relief...
This is achieved in two combined approaches; medicine and physical exercise therapies.
The medicine part will involve prescribed SSRIs (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors) and sometimes something to aid sleep. These will usually stabilize the patient by axing the anxiety, aiding sleep which enables body repair and improve immunity.
The exercises will help the patient's muscles not atrophy (which is a result of long term disuse). FM can knock its victims into a state of physical dormancy. Also, exercise will release extra feel good hormones which improve the patient's quality of life and promote relief.
You can boost your quality of life by incorporating healthy diets. You can also add a regimen of multivitamins, and more holistic lifestyle tips.

**All in all, never pressure the patient into recovery. While encouragement is good, keep it reasonable. Hardly does the patient understand what is going on, and neither does the doctor (they treat it symptomatically and every patient is unique). The stress may make it worse. Take your time.
Live life, live well, enjoy life.

Mental illness: what is it?

Mental illness refers to a wide range of mental health conditions — disorders
that affect your mood, thinking and behavior. Examples of mental illness
include depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, eating disorders and
addictive behaviors.
Many people have mental health concerns from time to time. But a mental
health concern becomes a mental illness when ongoing signs and symptoms
cause frequent stress and affect your ability to function. A mental illness can
make you miserable and can cause problems in your daily life, such as at
work or in relationships. In most cases, mental illness symptoms can be
managed with a combination of medications and counseling (psychotherapy).
(quoted from mayoclinic.org )
So in essence, there is no need to stigmatize people sufferning from mental illness. It is not a crime or a mistake. Just like physical ailments, anyone can suffer mental illness and still overcome it and achieve their dreams and goals. Do not feel bad about suffering from mental ailments, and do NOT lose hope in your life and capabilities. If amputees can become Olympic champions, mental illness sufferers can become geniuses in whatever fields they are good at.
Live life, live well.
